Golfing breaks at the Collingwood

In Northumberland and the Scottish Borders golf is part of everyday life with almost every town or village seeming to support its own golf course. We have listed just a few of the 18 hole golf courses which we believe are examples of the outstanding links and parkland courses in our area. And although some of the Border Country’s courses are as testing as any in the world, the main challenge is to keep your eye on the ball amid such splendid surroundings. To make the most of The Collingwood Arms and play your Rounds of Golf, telephone ahead with the courses you wish to play, dates, tee-off times and we will book the rest for you.

The Golf Courses

Berwick upon Tweed (Goswick) Golf Club

18 miles from the Hotel - travel time 37 minutes

This course provides a great challenge for Golfers of all ages and levels of experience, especially when the seaside winds blow. The course is fairly flat with some higher sand dunes to the seaward side. It is an easy walk for most people; Goswick is also a Championship qualifying course for the Open Championship.

Hirsel Golf Club, Coldstream

2 miles from the Hotel, travel time 4 minutes

A parkland course of great natural beauty and breathtaking views of the Cheviot Hills and surrounding countryside, it is a must for all golfers staying at The Collingwood, no matter their standard. 18 very different holes strategically designed to make the most of the undulations of the hills and valleys and the natural hazards presented by a very large number of majestic, mature trees, aided and abetted by the winding River Leet.

Duns Golf Club

15 miles from the Hotel, travel time 31 minutes

Duns Golf Course has been described as “A hidden gem in the Scottish Borders”. The Wellrig burn runs through the course and comes into play on several of the holes. There are two or three short climbs but otherwise the course has gentle slopes and gives lovely views of the countryside around Duns towards the Cheviot Hills to the south.

Eyemouth Golf Club

21 miles from the Hotel, travel time 36 minutes

Eyemouth is a spectacular Cliff top Links Golf course situated on the rugged east coast of Scotland which will offer you an enjoyable challenge, featuring some of the most scenic and interesting cliff top holes in Scottish golf. The now famous 6th hole which was voted “Britain’s Most Extraordinary Golf Hole”. Its formidable and challenging par 3 played across a vast gully often with the North Sea waves crashing below which leaves little room for error.

Kelso Golf Club

11 miles from the Hotel, travel time 21 minutes

Don’t be fooled by Kelso’s flat contours - it’s a bigger challenge than it looks. This is an attractive parkland course well known for the condition of its greens and fairways. The 15th almost certainly is the best short hole in the borders - tricky slopes, bunkers and out of bounds behind the green. The original course was designed by Ben Sayers then re-designed by James Braid in 1930. The mature 18 hole layout was opened in 1980.
